Vedic Meditation

Teaching meditation in the west as a white presenting person with mixed lineage for me begins with acknowledging the harm that has been caused by the appropriation of yoga practices as a whole. The history and lineage of yoga is one that is rooted in Indian and South Asian cultures. And I recognize that I am inherently disconnected from the origin of this practice. My intention is to maintain the purity of these teachings and practice of meditation so that it may potentially help others while simultaneously honoring its roots, and creating as little harm as possible. I also believe in sustainability, which is why 25% of profits from all meditation teaching is directed towards land regeneration in India through Navdanya as well as Ramana’s Garden, an orphanage and school in Rishikesh, India.

Vedic meditation is an effortless, eyes closed technique practiced for 20 minutes, twice a day.

By effortlessly bringing into awareness a primordial sound (also known as a mantra) the mind naturally begins to settle into a state of deep, wakeful rest. It is this restful state that allows for the body to diminish stress, expand capacity for discernment and increase overall states of being.

The word Vedic is derived from the Sanskrit word Veda, which means knowledge.

The Vedas are the ancient Indian body of knowledge that began to be recorded over 5,000 years old. It is the source of Ayurvedic medicine, acupuncture, yoga, and Indian philosophy, passed down through thousands of years of oral transmission from teachers in the Shankaracharya lineage of India. It is most recently attributed to Swami Brahmananda Saraswati as well as Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Although this practice has been passed down through a lineage of Vedic Masters, it is not monastic in practice, meaning that there’s no need to meditate for long periods of time to receive the benefits. It is a stress-relieving tool designed for "householders," or individuals with active minds, lives, and relationships.

With consistency of practice, students have experienced

  • greater equanimity and adaptability as you strengthen the ability for discernment.

  • refined concentration, focus, and memory skills as you clear stress from all five senses.

  • decrease in stress disorders such as heart disease, insomnia, headaches and migraines.

  • lowered stress, anxiety, and fatigue so you can experience greater performance, creativity and mental cognitions.

  • stronger relationships and parenting as you begin to experience a greater sense of self.

  • strengthened immunity, reduced cholesterol, and normalized blood pressure as cellular health is restored
